Geng Jianyi is one of China's most influential contemporary artists from the 1980s to the present, and his best friend Zhang Peili summed up his creative life: "uncompromising, not pretentious, not deliberately sensational". On December 5, 2017, Geng Jianyi died of illness. Five years later, in the winter of 2022, after more than a year of preparation by a group of friends, the largest "Retrospective of Geng Jianyi's Works" has opened at the Power Station of Art in Shanghai for free.
