In our recent community gathering with Kazu Haga, he reminded us that nonviolence is not softness—it is strength with direction. He spoke of a sacred balance: ✋🏽 One hand refuses to permit injustice. 🤲🏽 The other holds love, patience, and the possibility of transformation. Both are needed. Both are part of the work. Nonviolence demands that we protect the vulnerable while also keeping the door open for the oppressor to return to their own humanity—when, and if, they are ready. This is the courage of fierce vulnerability: to stand firm in truth without abandoning compassion, to resist harm without becoming the harm, to intervene while still believing in the possibility of collective healing.
